Nora

0 December 31, 2013 in Happy Tails (Adopted!) by staff
*She is 105 pounds, and still needs to gain about 5 more
*She is crate trained, but is also fine without a crate.
*She is very mellow in the house and usually just sleeps on the bed when indoors.
*She knows sit, down, stay, "go to bed".
*She is also REALLY affectionate (though not pushy) and loves to cuddle on the floor. She would like to get on the couches/beds, but wont come up uninvited.
*She has some barrier aggression/interest (through the fence, on leash), but she redirects pretty well and has been successfully introduced to several dogs without incident.
*Nora and her foster-sister, and 8 year old female lab, are totally fine together.
*Her leash manners are a work in progress. She is much better with the pinch-collar than without!
*Probably not suitable for a home with small dogs or cats because she plays hard and is so big.
*Nora and the lab eat side-by-side, if the lab tries to eat Nora's food she will growl (and the lab takes the hint), but it's not outright food aggression.
*She has interacted with some children in the last few weeks (as young as 2 years old) she is very excited, yet gentle with them and is affectionate toward them. I think she would be ok in a home with children, but she sure is big!
*Overall, I would say she is definitely a "project dog" if someone wants to take her out and about due to her current lack of socialization with other dogs (she will need ongoing doggy-classes). If someone had property and wanted a house dog that would be on his or her fenced property, she could be a "finished product", as long as she got along with any other animals on the property. Her foster-sister lab is very passive and I think that works best for Nora, though Nora is not overly dominant.
*Also, although she does like to romp around in the great outdoors/open spaces, she's a pretty low-energy dog. She is being fostered in town and she's content to sleep on her bed and go out for a walk or two a day with potty breaks in between.
She is a generally sweet, sensitive, and good natured dog. She is well behaved and very loving!
